Women Engineers Network

The Telecoms and Financial Services Executive Equal Opportunities Committee is looking to establish an informal network for our women engineering members, working in all Telecoms Companies.

We are having discussions with BT both at Group and LoB level, about their approach to the recruitment of women engineers and the retention issues. However the issues that we have identified in BT will also be relevant to Telewest, O2, NTL and other Telecoms Companies. The network is intended to produce a two way dialogue so that we can help and advise members on what discussions are taking place and so we can hear directly from women about their experiences in a very male dominated working environment.

Branches will be aware that this is a key plank in breaking through the issues of occupational segregation, where in BT in particular, women are clustered in the lower graded, lower earning jobs.

It will be mainly an email network but will aim to be responsive to the needs of those in the network. Women interested in joining the network should email Grace Mitchell: gmitchell@cwu.org in the first instance.
