CWU Legal Services

Benefits for you and your family

Legal Services icon

As a member of the CWU, you and your immediate family are entitled to a variety of legal advice and representation. We have a panel of local solicitors who provide high quality legal advice and assistance to our members.

If you need legal support, you will be allocated a solicitor from the panel.

This does not just cover accidents at work - you can contact the CWU helpline about a number of legal issues.

All advice and guidance is confidential.

Please contact the branch office to take advantage of any of these services.

CWU Legal Services can help with:

Accidents (in work)

Members are covered for accidents that happen at work. If this has happened to you, your employer may be liable. A case can arise in many circumstances, for example where there is an unsafe system of work, negligence of another employee or insufficient training.

Accidents (out of work)

The CWU and its solicitors can also help if you or your family have been injured in a public place, for example in a shop or on a public road or pavement. You and your family are also entitled to legal advice and assistance if you have suffered a road traffic accident.

Asbestos and disease related claims

Diseases can take many years to develop. Symptoms may surface some considerable time after you have been exposed to a harmful substance.

Medical Negligence

Medical negligence is when someone receives substandard medical treatment and is left with injuries that could have been avoided. This could be due to negligent medical treatment, faulty equipment or medication.

Family law advice

If you are facing the difficult situation of a divorce, separation or other family related issue, legal advice and help is available.

Employment advice

If you are having problems at work, the CWU and its solicitors can advise you on your rights and explain your options.

Buying or selling your house

A discounted conveyancing service is available to CWU members.

Free legal advice helpline

You and your family can call our free legal helpline on 0800 804 6674.

Free standard Wills

You and your partner are entitled to a free standard Will. Drafting a Will is essential to plan for your family's future security.
