Use of Drills Whilst Working from a Ladder

A meeting has been held with BT to resolve a safe system of work when using the new Hammer Light 24-volt cordless drill.

A safe system of work has been agreed and BT is now preparing a briefing. Meanwhile the T&FSE Health & Safety committee believes the issues surrounding the use of this drill have now been resolved.

As from now when using the Hammer Light 24-volt cordless drill to install an eye-bolt 2A the following process must be applied.

  1. A ladder stability device top end (item code No 129363) MUST be used.
  2. Only the SDS facility on the drill should be used and under NO circumstances must the chuck be used when installing eye- bolt 2A.
  3. A sash line must always be used to get the drill aloft.

Further meetings have been agreed with the company to continue our discussions on the safe working systems and use of drills while working from a ladder.
