BT Pay 2007 - Revised Offer Rejected

8 March 2007

BT has tabled a new offer of a 2.9% consolidated increase in pay rates plus a £200 one-off unconsolidated lump sum payment featured in the last offer.

The offer is subject to CWU agreeing to enter into meaningful discussions with the objective of establishing an approach to enhancing the contribution of employees to achieving improved business performance.

The CWU rejected the offer because the consolidated increase of 2.9% on pay rates and the consequential increase on those allowances that move automatically with pay and a further £200 unconsolidated payment represents a cut in members' standard of living and is insufficient recognition of their contribution to the success of the company.

The CWU recognises the transformational challenges faced by BT and the continuing need to engage in meaningful discussions to improve business performance.

The CWU has been successful in removing the individual Performance Related Pay element in this pay offer but the offer remains unacceptable.

NO TO LUMP SUM PAYMENTS!

  • £200 unconsolidated is not a permanent improvement in your pay. Your pay will still only increase by 2.9%. The £200 is a one-off payment. It’s not going to help increases in your mortgage rates, off-set your council tax or your daily travel to work costs. It will not aid your monthly household bills. Unconsolidated payments do not progress your pay rates and have no place in any settlement.

NO TO PAY CUTS!

  • While this is an improvement to the offer, it still is not anywhere close to an offer that could lead to a negotiated settlement.
  • This offer is below inflation and would be a cut in your pay in real terms. The CWU continue to seek a real increase in your pay rates and will not countenance a cut.
  • BT will need to seriously rethink their "ballpark" if we are to achieve a negotiated settlement this year.
